Car Give Away Information



Any “ELIGIBLE” Southwest High School Graduating Senior students that meets the criteria will qualify for a chance to win the Toyota Vehicle. Juniors who meet criteria in all categories will earn 1 entry for the 2019-2020 contest. 30 keys will be awarded and only 1 of those keys will start car. The student with the key that starts the car will be considered the winner. In the event the winner is unable to, or waives his/her right to, accept the car, another key drawing will occur among the remaining eligible Southwest High Seniors.


Contest start date: Monday, October 21, 2019

Last day a student can transfer to SWHS/SWLHS and still participate: November 1, 2019

Last day criteria will count toward the contest: April 24, 2020

Criteria eligibility concerns must be addressed to Admin no later than: May 8, 2020 by 4:15pm

Senior Walk Car Giveaway(s): SWL May 14, 2020, SWHS May 21, 2020


The random drawing of keys from eligible students’ will be held on Wednesday May 13th at 9:30 am for SWLHS and Wednesday May 20th at 9:30 am for SWHS. The drawing site will be North Park Toyota of San Antonio. Parents and Family of the qualifying students are welcome to be present.

The 30 (total) randomly drawn Southwest High School Senior students, will have the opportunity to draw 1 (one) of the 30 keys from a container. Only ONE (1) of these keys will start the car. The selected key will be then inserted into the car. The 1st student whose key starts the car wins the car. No other students will be allowed to try their keys after the student with the key that starts the car is declared the winner. 30 KEYS WILL BE GIVEN FOR THE CONTEST.

Keys are the property of North Park Toyota of San Antonio and must be returned following the contest. North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota assume no responsibility for unanticipated delays in holding such drawing of keys. North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota decision to hold such drawing is final.


Eligibility is based on meeting requirements in ALL 4 CATEGORIES: GPA, GRADES, ATTENDANCE, and DISCIPLINE. (Example: A Student must receive at least 1 entry in ALL categories which are GPA, GRADES, and ATTENDANCE, as well as meeting the DISCIPLINE requirement, in order to receive their entries for a key. Students who receive entries in only 1 or 2 categories will not be eligible for the contest. Based on these categories, students are able to receive entries into the contest. STUDENTS MUST BE A GRADUATING SENIOR WHO HAS PASSED ALL STATE ASSESSMENTS.

GPA: For the Fall 2019 semester, college 4 Point Grade Point Average (9th grade-thru 1stsemester senior year) will be utilized. If a studenthas:

2.00 to 2.74 GPA 1 Entry

2.75 to 2.99 GPA 2 Entries

3.00 to 3.49 GPA 3 Entries

3.5 to 4.00   GPA 4 Entries

GRADES: For the 2020 Spring Semester, the third semester , if your report cardhas:

All A’s  4 Entries

A’s and B’s 3 Entries

All B’s  2 Entries

A’s, B’s, & C’s 1 Entry

ATTENDANCE: For both Fall and Spring semesters, if a student has:

0 Absences                  4 Entries

1 Absence                   3 Entries

2 Absences                  2 Entries

3 Absences                  1 Entry

  • NEW** ATTENDANCE CLAUSE: Any senior with 3 or less absences will qualify for one Entry

    ADA State Law Attendance will be used to determine the attendance criteria for the contest. Any UNEXCUSED absence according to Texas State Law will count as an absence towards the student.

    State Law Exemptions for attendance include but are not limited to, UIL documented activity, doctor’s note, religious holiday, required court appearances, activities relating to obtaining United States citizenship, service as an election clerk, documented health care appointments, including absences for recognized services for students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. A note from the health care provider must be submitted upon the student’s return to campus within 3 days in accordance with state law, a junior or senior visiting a college or university will be considered, provided the student receives approval from the campus principal, follows the campus procedures to verify such a visit, and make up any work missed.


Discipline up to April 24, 2020 at 9:30 am will be used to determine if a student is disqualified from the contest. Any majority infraction that requires a mandatory DAEP placement will disqualify a student from the contest.


Any Senior Student that receives 11 to 13 (13 can possibly be earned by a student who received an entry as a junior student) entries will triple their number of entries for the key drawing. Ex. If a student earns 12 entries, they will enter their name 36 times into the drawing for a chance at getting their name drawn for a key. If a senior does not receive the 11 through 13 entries, their number of earned entries will be placed in the drawing for the opportunity to receive one of the 30 keys. Juniors will not be eligible to earn a key this year. Entries earned as a Junior will not be added to any earned Senior Entries to qualify for the car drawing.


Elimination from the contest may include but are not limited to, (1) not meeting the above criteria, major infractions of the SWISD Student Code of Conduct that results in a Mandatory DAEP placement will disqualify student from contest.


In the case of a Southwest High School senior who is a minor, their parent or legal guardian will be responsible for filling out the entry form into the contest and the acceptance of the vehicle and all terms and conditions set forth herein, including but not limited to signing any waiver of liability on acceptance of the vehicle. Southwest High School is responsible for determining official attendance and eligibility of Southwest High School juniors and seniors in the contest.


One (1) Toyota Vehicle will be awarded to one (1) eligible senior randomly selected by a drawing as set forth above, or at a later date, place, and time, if so required. Retail value of the car is approximated by North Park Toyota. Cash in lieu of acceptance of the car is not allowed.


Winning student is responsible for all applicable taxes (whether local, state, federal, or international), surcharges, tariffs, shipping and handling, registration fees, the cost of insurance, inspection fees, and all other costs associated with taking possession of the car. Winning student is also responsible for title, license, registration, and all other requirements related to use of the automobile.


Neither North Park Toyota of San Antonio (NPTOSA) nor Gulf States Toyota (GST) nor their agents or agencies assume any responsibility for damages, losses, or injury resulting from the car or its operation. NPTOSA and GST and their agencies and agents make no warranty of any kind regarding the car.

NPTOSA and GST and their agencies and agents expressly exclude all implied warranties, including warranties of merchant ability for a particular purpose. There are no warranties offered by NPTOSA and GST, their agencies or agents which extend beyond the description on the face hereof. Odds of being selected to receive the 2019 Toyota depend on the number of eligible students for the drawing.


Entry constitutes permission to disclose any provided information in an effort to comply with legally required disclosure, and/or for promotional and commercial purposes, except where prohibited by law.


Winning student will be required to participate in post-drawing publicity profile and agree to photography, videotaping, interviewing, audio taping, and/or digital imaging/recording of the event. Winning student will be required to provide personal identification and verification of address to claim prize. North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota reserve the exclusive right to determine whether any student meets any pre- or post-drawing requirement to claim any prize. North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota reserve the right to conduct random drawing at any time after the conclusion of the contest. Any alternate drawing is subject to scheduling by North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota without notice to any entrant.


The care giveaway is a promotion organized by North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota in conjunction with Southwest ISD. North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota are sponsors of the car giveaway.


This contest will be governed by the internal laws of the State of Texas, Bexar County.  Any and all legal actions or claims arising in connection with this contest must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction within the State of Texas, Bexar County. North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota are not responsible for late, lost, stolen, damaged, garbled, incomplete, misaddressed, postage due, or misdirected entries, mail or communications for errors, omissions, interruptions, deletions, defects, or delays in operations or transmission of information, in each case whether rising by way of technical or other transmission lines or data corruption, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entry materials, loss or otherwise. Furthermore, North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota are not responsible for electronic communications which are undeliverable as a result of any form of active or passive filtering of any kind, or insufficient space in entrant’s e-mail account to receive e-mail messages. North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant from this Giveaway or any other promotion conducted now or in the future by North Park Toyota of San Antonio and Gulf States Toyota or any of their affiliates if his or her action, fraud or misconduct affects the integrity of the contest. By participating in this contest, each entrant accepts the conditions stated in these rules, agrees to be bound by the decisions of North Park Toyota of San Antonio, Gulf States Toyota, and Southwest Independent School District, its directors, employees, officers, and agents from any and all liability, loss or damage arising from or in connection with the awarding, receipt, and/or use or misuse of prize or participation in any prize-related activities.
